Jason DeRulo's Debut In Stores Now
Jason Derulo became one of 2009's breakout stars when he debut single "Whatcha Say" hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The follow up, "In My Head," has also become a huge smash. Now, Jason's released his self-titled debut album, which is in stores now.
Jason says he knows it's a cliche to say that his album has something for everybody, but he really feels as though it does, because he's a master of many musical genres. Before he became a star in his own right, he wrote songs for the likes of Diddy, Danity Kane, Sean Kingston, and Cassie among others, and he explains that that experience has helped make him musically versatile. He says, "I am capable of reinventing myself on each track and I don't want any song to sound like the last."
Calling the experience of listening to his CD "a musical journey," Jason explains, "If you're at a red light and you're [listening] to my CD and somebody stops on the side of you and is kinda eavesdropping, they'll think you're listening to a rock album. The next light, they'll think you're listening to a euro-techno artist. So it's a totally universal album."
Despite his prior success as a songwriter, Jason says releasing his own album and becoming an artist himself has finally brought him happiness. He tells us, "I was really uncomfortable being a songwriter, being the pen behind people's voices. I feel so fulfilled now; I feel so complete. I wake up every morning with a smile on my face."
